“I’m a conservative professor and constitutional lawyer. I’m not a politician. I’m running because Wisconsin deserves an attorney general who will put our freedoms first.”
MADISON, Wis. — Ryan Owens, a Republican, announced his campaign for Attorney General today. Owens is a conservative professor at UW-Madison. He previously taught at Harvard University, practiced law, and worked for former Governor Tommy Thompson.
“We have a leadership deficit in this state that’s turning into a freedom deficit,” said Ryan Owens, candidate for Attorney General. “I’m a conservative professor and constitutional lawyer. I’m not a politician. I’m running because Wisconsin deserves an attorney general who will put our freedoms first. Josh Kaul repeatedly put his political goals ahead of our freedom, safety, and prosperity.”
Ryan’s family has been in Wisconsin for six generations. A proud central Wisconsin native, Ryan is a husband and a father to two teenage boys—one of whom is special needs. He’s also a life-long Green Bay Packers fan.
Owens believes we deserve an Attorney General who won’t sacrifice our freedom for political ambition. The Attorney General must side with parents, must treat our law enforcement officers fairly, and must stand up to government overreach that hurts our communities and small businesses.
“Ryan has a deep appreciation for the U.S. Constitution and its values,” said Paul Clement, the 43rd Solicitor General of the United States under President George W. Bush. “Wisconsin can count on him to fight for the principles of federalism and the rule of law. He will be a fearless leader dedicated to safety, freedom, and prosperity.”
“Law enforcement needs our support. Our next attorney general must not only respect law enforcement but also stand up for them. Ryan will be that leader,” said Michael Gableman, a former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice. “He listens, builds trust, and acts decisively. He will give law enforcement, and everyone in our communities, a square deal.”
Two other former Supreme Court Justices, Daniel Kelly and David T. Prosser, Jr., also support Owens.
“I like Ryan. He is upbeat, smart, and honest. He is a thoughtful leader who will stand up for our law enforcement and defend our liberties,” said Margaret Farrow, the 42nd Lt. Governor of Wisconsin. “Ryan Owens is the right candidate, at the right time, and I’m proud to endorse his run for Attorney General.”
“I’ve worked in private practice to break up monopolistic practices,” continued Ryan Owens. “I have represented U.S. Senators at the United States Supreme Court. I worked closely with my friend, Governor Tommy Thompson. And I’m a volunteer with Wisconsin Special Olympics, a wonderful organization that does great things for our communities.”
“I’m running to stand up for the rule of law and against a growing intolerance. We need an Attorney General who will defend freedom against those who attack it, defend law enforcement, and end the recklessness we see. Together, we can create a safer, freer, and more prosperous Wisconsin,” concluded Ryan Owens.
